ABOUT THE ARTIST
To anyone who may not know me, my name is Shelby.
I grew up in Sundre, Alberta, and was active in the local 4-H Clubs where I gained a great deal of knowledge and confidence working with and around horses. My passion for the western lifestyle grew, leading me to the Alberta High School Rodeo Association, and the Go Wild Go West Drill Team. Through both programs I was brought even closer to the sport of rodeo. In 2010, I was crowned Miss Rodeo Sundre, and later in 2013 became Miss Ponoka Stampede.
All through my child hood I was an attendee to many weddings. My mom was a photographer, so there I was, carrying camera bags, learning, and seeing the flow of the day. For my 16th Birthday my Dad (and extended family) got me a camera, and I think this is where it all began. First it was rodeos, and then it turned into fun shoots with my friends.
After I graduated I moved away, and in doing so packed away my camera. In 2015 I received a phone call that would change my life, I was asked to photograph my first wedding. It had felt like years since I had really focused on photography, so there I was, with my entry level camera, shooting my very first wedding! Let's just say, the fire was ignited! Over the next few years I started my own business in wedding photography, lifestyle portraiture, equine photography and styled shoots.
I currently reside on my very own acreage north of Turner Valley Alberta with my hubby. When I am not shooting my life is dedicated to my animals. My fur children include two dogs, two cats, three chickens and an amazing Thoroughbred mare, and soon a donkey! Throughout the year I can be found enjoying nature and finding ways to incorporate all of the things I love. In the winter I can be found Skijoring, in the spring and summer I love to trail ride and hike, and in the fall I am part of the Calgary Hunt Club (definitely worth checking out). Another fun fact about me is that I have a vast and undying love for quotes and more often than not I will spend hours trying to pick the right quote for my posts.
My passion for photography is only continuing to grow. Each time I pick up my camera I learn something new. Sometimes it's about my couples, (ok who am I kidding, I am always learning more and building great relationships with those I work with), other times though it's about me, it's about how I am shooting, the light I am playing with, and the feelings I want to interpret. Each time I pick up my camera I fall into this place of reminiscing, and it's not for what has happened, but for the moments I am about to capture and how they will be cherished for years to come.
And on that note, "People talk about perfect timing, but I think everything is perfect in its moment; you just want to capture that." -Eddie Huang
If you have gotten this far, thank you! Thank you for spending the time to get a little bit more about me, the gal behind the lens.
